www.TenMarks.com
This is a website that I will use it to supplement classwork assignments. Occasionally, I will use this as an assessment--which I will tell the kids, and that will be done IN CLASS if it is used as an assessment.
Feel free to watch the videos on the website that explain a bit about how it works. Your student should also be able to tell you a bit about how the program works.
The website works similar to Khan Academy (although I think it is much more kid-friendly). Students can work on assignments I have given them (either as a class or individual), which earns them coins. They can then spend these coins to play games in the program for a set amount of time. "Jam Sessions" are a way for students to practice operations necessary for that grade level work, it's a way for them to "skill and drill" but without the pressure of time or anything else, it's really just practice. It is also a way they can earn coins and spend them on games, which becomes the motivation.

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS:
Emotion Logs
Students should have a minimum of 5 entries per week (the more the merrier)
(they can have multiple entries in a day, spread apart, if they skipped or forgot a day)
Information in log:
1. Date
2. Emotions (1-3)
3. #Hrs of sleep
4. 2 things or people they are grateful for
5. Intensity of Emotion
**At the end of each month, students will categorize every emotion they listed in 3 different ways.
**Then RATIOS will be created based on those categories, and used for creating pie charts.
**A written/reflection component will also be incorporated into this assignment.
ALL OF THIS WILL BE SUBMITTED AND MAINTAINED ONLINE (although they will have a paper copy of their log in their notebook, the understanding is that they will copy that into an excel spreadsheet, and we will use that to analyze our data/statistics)
WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS:
Graph of the Week
Each week, students will be given a sheet (shared online- although the first week is paper copy).
On this sheet there are various graphs/charts (sometimes only 1), and they will answer 4 questions based on the information they are looking at.
4 Questions:
1. What is the topic of each graph?
2. What does the x-axis represent? What does the y-axis represent?
(No need to specify which is which, students just need to be able to tell me what are the "two dimensions of analysis" for the graphs)
3. What are some observations you can make based on the graph?
(There are a series of "guiding questions" on the GOTw in the top right-hand corner that can help you with this--OR--students can make their own observations or draw conclusions based on what they see)
4. What do you foresee happening in the next 10 years?
(This is a place where you can make conjectures on what you think will happen based on the information provided)
Hint: Conjecture is a Math term meaning an educated guess based on a pattern--In science we call it a Hypothesis--
**There will be a rubric provided online via Google Classroom that students can reference when submitting assignments**
Weekly Assessments
Typically, students can expect at least 1 assessment per week. That may include a formal quiz, an "exit slip", or an assignment. Anything used as an assessment will be communicated to the student prior to them taking it--meaning I will tell them that this is a graded assessment and what I'm looking for.
MONTHLY ASSIGNMENTS:
Problem of the Month
Problem of the Month is a multi-leveled problem that takes several approaches to understand and to complete. The question requires many steps and involved lots of important information that needs to be considered.
Students should be able to articulate their thinking and express HOW they got their answer, showing work if necessary. However, due to the assignment being submitted online, we will have to maneuver what this looks like as we go through the process. Know that I will make any necessary adjustments to accommodate the needs of our students.
**A rubric for this assignment will be forthcoming on Google Classroom.
